Honorable Guests in the Museum.

On Saturday, the 24th of March the Museum of the History and Culture of Bukovinian Jews was honored to have special guests – Dr Hans-Juergen Heimsoeth, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Germany to Ukraine, and his wife. Undertaking an official visit to Chernivtsi, the Ambassador and his wife took a tour around the museum, showing true interest in its permanent exhibition, and met the museum’s team. Guests expressed great pleasure that there is a museum in Chernivtsi, which works for the preservation and popularization of the rich Jewish historical and cultural heritage of the region. In particular, the Ambassador stated that Chernivtsi and Bukovyna are known in his Motherland first of all by the contribution which was made by representatives of Chernivtsi and Bukovyna Jewry to the German and European culture.

While visiting the Museum the Head of the Embassy of the Federative Republic of Germany in Ukraine had an opportunity to met <>Leonie Barabas-Weil, the German volunteer, who has already been helping in the museum for 7 months. Mykola Kushnir, the Director of the Museum, who gave a tour around the museum for our respectable guests, told Mr. Ambassador about the cooperation of the museum with German NGOs, first of all with Aktion Suehnezeichen Friedensdienste, and also with other institutions and museums of Germany. He also expressed sincere gratitude for assistance which museum receives from Germany.
